Marina Boat House Renovations
Pre Construction Photography and Video
August 2020

For this project ALL PRO USA was asked to come back out to the Tapan Lake Marina in Scio, Ohio in Harrison County. This time we were asked to document the main Marina building for some renovations that will be happening to the building. The contractor that hired us, asked us to document all of the areas around the building that was going to be demolished. We were asked to document all of the areas around the building, the restaurant area inside, the kitchen that serves the restaurant, a back set of rooms that was an old apartment, and the basement areas that are used for storage and maintenance of boats. The contractor would be completely renovating the building from the inside and out.

For this particular project ALL PRO USA sent a two person team to the marina to capture what the contractor needed. The team took with them multiple pieces of equipment to capture the project site. The first piece of equipment was a Nikon Z6 Mirrorless camera paired with a DJI Ronin Gimbal. This combo was used to document all of the ground level video around and inside the building. The second piece of equipment was a Canon 5D Mark IV, this was used as a still camera to capture all of the ground level photography around the building that was being documented. The last piece of equipment was our DJI Mavic 2 Pro Drone. This is a favorite piece of equipment for the team to use. This allows us to capture unique angles from the air for both video and photography.

To start this project the team first used the Nikon Z6 to capture all of the video from the ground level. One member of the team walked to entire outside of the building focused on capturing the video that the contractor needed. While one team member did this the other used the Canon 5d Mark IV to capture still photography following the same route that the videographer took around the building. Once all of the documentation was captured outside the building the team then moved inside the building to document the office and store area, the kitchen, the restaurant, the old apartment, and the areas in the basement used for storage and maintenance. This was done in tandem to complete the video and the photo in the same order to allow for the media to be easily viewed by the contractor.
After the ground level documentation was completed our FAA certified drone pilots got the DJI Mavic Drone in the air to document the exterior of the building again but from a different angle. From the air we were able to get a unique view of all of the cement work that is around the Marina building. This also allowed the team to capture some shots of the roof of the building which would have been otherwise extremely challenging. The team split the task of flying the drone into two roles. The first was the Remote Pilot in Command, this role was responsible for manipulating the controls of the drone as well as ensuring that angles needed were captured in both photo and video. The other role was a visual observer, this role was responsible for helping to keep an eye on the drone and ensure that there were no obstacles or hazards along the route that the drone would be flying. Once the documentation was complete the team returned back home to Pittsburgh to edit the photos and the video and provide if to the contractor in two forms. The first was a digital format on Vimeo for the video and Smug Mug for the photography. We also sent the documentation to the contractor on two USB hard drives so that they also have physical copies of the media.
